End Title - The London Philharmonic Orchestra - Star Wars Also A Stereo Space Odyssey (Vinyl, LP)

A stereo journey. So for kids of the day, desperate for as much Star Wars as they could get their hands, eyes, taste buds, and ears on the music of the film was an evocative and much-prized treasure. Today the music of Star Wars is as iconic as any aspect of the film, weaving its way into the cultural subconsciousness and launching a thousand imitators.

The original soundtrack, a double album with booklet released in May by 20th Century Records, sold in millions and revived not only the popularity of the orchestral soundtrack but also the mass appeal of movie soundtracks in general. Keyboard player John Rose managed to balance the instruments of the old with the music of the new by performing his version of the soundtrack on the great pipe organ at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford, Connecticut, back in Released via Delos Records the album contained a selection of tracks familiar to anyone who owns the original soundtrack. Yeah, you read that right, the Rebel Force band. I should've just done the whole thing, but I was in a hurry!

Kenneth Schermerhorn conducted the orchestra on the soundtrack of Baryshnikov 's production The Nutcracker , a staging of Tchaikovsky's ballet which became a television classic, after being presented live onstage. The orchestra also provided the music for the stage production. Some of the film scores recorded in England and performed by the National Philharmonic Orchestra:.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Tony Mendez, a specialist in covert operations, concocted a scheme by which, armed with fake marketing materials, he pretended to be a film producer scouting locations in the Iranian desert to be used for a "Star Wars" knockoff called "Argo. In Fox's contract negotiations with Lucas in , the studio ceded merchandising and sequel rights, figuring they would be worth little.

Yet so great was the demand at Christmas that Kenner -- unable to produce action figures in time -- sold boxes containing a coupon good for still-to-be-manufactured toys, a discomfiting package to open under a tree! A long time ago, music came not from CDs or MP3s but from inch flat vinyl platters carved with grooves -- people actually stuck needles to them, to produce rapturous sounds.

Four million of these "records" were sold -- and soon, other movies tried to copy the melodic grace and energy that John Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra created for "Star Wars. The record-breaking box office of "Star Wars" along with Steven Spielberg's "Jaws," which had opened two years earlier changed Hollywood's attitude towards the summer, which they had perceived as a desert in their release schedule.

The studios began marketing countless big-budget action and science fiction blockbusters during the summer months, with franchises like the Lucas-produced Indiana Jones films becoming "tentpoles" of the studio's release schedules. Release strategies changed so quickly that by the time of the third entry in the "Star Wars" saga, 's "Return of the Jedi" left, with Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill , the film opened in more than 1, theaters compared to the original film's 32 and set a new record for opening weekend grosses.

The success of the films' 70mm Dolby Stereo releases also encouraged large-format distribution of dozens of other films, even those that did not fall within the sci-fi or action genres. Fans who could not get enough of the adventures of Luke Skywalker created their own, sometimes tongue-in-cheek.
